Perch Pounce

Description

A great blue heron prepares to swallow a white perch on the Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge in Delaware. The refuge was created out of muck in the 1930s and 40s by a segregated Black crew in the Civilian Conservation Corps. It is now a renowned bird migratory stop and fish nursery which attracting herons. This conservation victory is newly at risk as the Trump administration is gutting the Clean Water Act and has slashed the staff of US Fish & Wildlife Service by nearly 20 percent.
