The Ubiquitous Armenian Carpet
Description
ArArmenian carpets are tied to national identity because they concentrate a great deal of what Armenians see as distinctively “theirs” into one visible, long-lasting object that carries history, craft, symbols, and collective and family memory. Carpets signaled family origin. During the Armenian Genocide and later diasporas, carpets became one of the few portable “pieces of home.” In the diaspora, an Armenian carpet became a visible link to the lost homeland and shared past.
