After the Roses Fade

Long after the dance, anniversary or birthday is over, the vase sits on the table, water almost gone- leaves dropping daily in the murky half-light of the room. The flowers wilt, petals curling and turning sour- shades of brown and grey. The flowers display a different kind of beauty now- reminiscent of the circle of life and death, age and beauty, and nature's never-ending cycle.
